PHIL1603 · Complex Problems and Enduring Questions
Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences
What is art? This course will reflect on art, and the experience of art, in light of some of the philosophical and religious discourses of the pre-modern Mediterranean world. Questions and conversations about art include questions and conversations about reality, existence, perception, judgment, politics, and morality. To think about art is to think about the true, the good, and the beautiful, as well as the false, the bad, and the ugly. In this way, reflection on art will be our path to reflection on what it means to be a flourishing person in a just society.
