Any change, innovation, or new thing begins with an idea. While one person might come up with an initial idea, the idea, and the thing it consequently turns into, has the potential to become better when built upon by other people. The purpose of this course is to learn and apply evidence-based frameworks for effectively developing and working with ideas to innovate and enact change in organizations and beyond. Building from research on organizational creativity, innovation, collaboration, and entrepreneurship, students will develop a thorough understanding of how individuals, social processes, and context influence creativity and innovation. Through written analyses and an exam, students will demonstrate their grasp of theoretical frameworks and evidence-based strategies for idea work. Throughout the course, students will also put these frameworks into practice by developing their own project ideas, engaging in the key skills of generating, connecting, communicating, evaluating, and reshaping ideas to make things that matter.
