SPAN6653 · Romance Languages and Literatures
Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences
Course is taught in Spanish and fulfills the Post-1900 Latin-American requirement for HS MajorsWhat has led humanity to the current environmental crisis, and what are its consequences? How do we envision the future of humans and other species in post-environmental collapse and extinction scenarios? In this course, we will explore from an ecocritical perspective how Latin America represents and responds to this crisis through literature, film, and the arts. We will address canonical and emerging authors who have created narratives about extractivism, environmental disasters, activism, the struggle of indigenous peoples to defend the land, climate refugees, and speculative stories of cli-fi (climate fiction). These works will help us to rethink and reevaluate our position.
