Conducted in Italian. In this course, we will enter the captivating world of Italian epic literature, as embodied by the two absolute masterpieces of the genre: Ludovico Ariosto'sOrlando furioso and Torquato Tasso'sGerusalemme liberata. Designed by their authors to delight their readers with tall tales of adventure and the supernatural, as well as tender romance and theatrical melodrama, these epics at the same time explore serious themes concerning religious and cultural identity, power politics, and the struggle between good and evil.
