The purpose of this course is to provide students with an introduction to the field of drama therapy and the theories and principles involved in its practice. The course defines Drama Therapy and differentiates it from related fields such as psychodrama and creative drama. The course will provide an overview of the history of drama therapy, exploration of theories and approaches, and typicalsites for practice including schools and educational settings, hospitals, clinics and other medical/psychiatric treatment settings, and community-based programs. Students will observe and participate in experientialdrama therapy exercises over the course of the semester to gain familiarity and practice various techniques.
