LING2701 · Slavic & Eastern Languages and Literatures
Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences
Large Language Models produce apparently human-seeming text and speech, but without human minds and bodies. In this course, we will use linguistics to analyze the output of language models. From accents to syntax, we will investigate the similarities and differences between human and artificially-generated language, and how well the models imitate particular forms of language. Students will work together to develop hypotheses and collect, analyze, and interpret data.Prerequisite: An introductory-level course either in Linguistics or in Computer Science.
