History Major Standing. How do people resist dictatorial regimes in their daily lives? This course explores Latin American case studies from the past century to uncover the varied forms of resistance during authoritarian rule. Through these examples, students will engage with the study and writing of history, learning to analyze diverse historical sources and develop critical perspectives on resistance movements. By semesters end, students will apply their skills in historical research and analysis to produce a well-researched paper on a related topic, deepening their understanding of both the challenges and resilience in authoritarian contexts.
