Fulfills US History requirement for History Majors.This course explores the different social movements where Latinx people have historically been present. Topics include immigrant rights mobilizations, housing justice, labor movements, feminism and reproductive rights, environmental justice, labor and educational struggles, community health, and religious movements. Students will learn about Latinx print culture, the rise of capitalism and imperialism, and the theories of activists struggling for a better world. The class also examine how Latinx activists have faced surveillance from local and national policing forces. We will explore the newspapers, art, flyers, platforms, and speeches by Latinx activists and organizations with present-day implications in places such as Boston.
