PHIL6434 · Philosophy
Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences
This seminar will explore the notion that philosophy belongs to and cultivates a distinctive way of life centered on specific practices, and generating specific modes of care for self and others. Taking our bearings from contemporary authors including M. Foucault, J. Greisch, P. Hadot, and M. Nussbaum, we will concentrate on the major texts that their claims highlight. The seminar will include attention to the idea that teaching no less than thinking or writing belongs to this way of life.
