In the digital world where organizations are deluged by data an essential leadership competency has emerged: understanding and utilizing data analytics for decision making. This course will equip students with the analytical mindset needed to make actionable decisions by analyzing and interpreting multiple types of data. Students will learn the meaning of data science, data analytics, and big data and how they are used to make decisions for innovation, resource allocation, and value creation. According to McKinsey, data-driven companies are better at acquiring new customers, maintaining customer loyalty, and achieving above-average profitability. This points to the need to include a course on Decision-making with Data an essential component of any leadership development program. In addition to introducing students to the language of data science and data analytics from terms like processing, cleaning, and validating data to predictive and descriptive analytics - this course will teach students analysis methods like regression. Knowing both terminology and methodology of data analytics will enable students to actively engage in the processes of problem formulation and decision-making in their organizations. Finally, students will learn how to tell stories with data, synthesizing data into reports, presentations, and visuals that are meaningful and delivered in a convincing format. No prior background in data science or statistics is required.
