This course delves into the multifaceted domain of career theory, exploring the dynamic interplay between individual agency, organizational structures, and societal influences in shaping career trajectories. We will examine both foundational and contemporary career theories that span multiple fields of study including organizational behavior, sociology of work, applied psychology and economics, among others. We will also explore topics such as the evolving and dynamic nature of careers in the context of globalization, technological advancements, and changing labor markets. Additionally, we will explore the complexities faced by dual-career couples and other relational aspects of careers, emphasizing the importance of inclusivity and diversity in career outcomes and practices. Given the course focus on careers, you will have the opportunity to reflect on your own career journeys and future, with the goal of contextualizing theoretical and empirical scholarship from both a personal and professional angle.
