ADSO1701 · Advancing Studies
ADV
This course critically examines the world of work in the contemporary US and beyond. We will pay particular attention to how both labor markets and labor processes are shaped by capitalism, racism, sexism, and other systems of power. Much of our time will be spent critiquing a small number of carefully selected case studies of specific occupations. The insights gained from these case studies will help students to reflect on their own experiences and aspirations as workers. The course will conclude with practical discussions on how to transform the world of work in ways that promote equity and justice.
