Lara is a great teacher. She is passionate about the subject and that comes across in her lectures. She is very nice and eager to help outside of class in office hours.
Lara has been the most influential professor I have ever had; the way she teaches class really challenges the way you think and engages everyone. She's not afraid of digging into sensitive topics, and that's the way it should be when it comes to sociology.

Always willing to meet up, provide clarification, and help you truly understand the material. Brilliant professor with a sense of humor, passion for sociology, and compassion towards her students.
Professor Birk is an amazing teacher and person. The lectures are always extremely interesting and discussion based. She really engages every student and gets everyone to fully grasp the topic or issue at hand and think of common ideas in completely new ways. She is always there to talk to or meet with for extra help. Best class of college.
Professor Birk taught at Wesleyan University this past year but I know she is returning to BC in the coming year. She is amazing!!! Before each class we read several interesting readings and then in class she guided us in some of the most thought-provoking class discussions I've ever participated in, showing us relevant videos. Fair grader.
