Professor Highlen's lectures were very interesting even though I was not a philosophy major and thoroughly explained everything. As long as you go to every class and take notes the tests were pretty easy and the papers were not too bad either.

Delivers lots of content well, sets very clear expectations, would recommend

Going in I wasn't expecting anything interesting from the topic, but his lectures genuinely made me interested and engaged in the topic. Open-book tests. Go to office hours and he's more than happy to tell you why you got a question wrong. The person who rated him a 2 probably did bad in the class--like how do you mess up open-book tests.

Nice professor, lectures are interesting. Tests are relatively easy if you read the texts. Easy grader on the essays.

Highlen is very mid on the spectrum of philo teachers at BC. You have 4 tests for the semester which comes out to like a test every three weeks in his class. I also thought it his grading was kinda bogus particularly on tests. Doesn't give feedback but just tells you that you're wrong (like it's philosophy how is that even possible). Avoid imo

He is one of the best professors, so if you have to fulfill the Philosophy core, take Professor Highlen!! There's a relatively moderate amount of work (still less than most other profs), but the course is fascinating and Professor Highlen is an incredibly fair grader and great lecturer. If you participate and put in effort you will 100% do well!!

Great lecturer and fair teacher. Highly recommend (no pun intended).

Professor Highlen is relatively new but his 1000 level philosophy classes are very easy with engaging lectures that make the subject interesting to people just taking it for core. I myself am a PHIL major who had to take his class as a transfer but he still uncovered new ideas in familiar text. Open book tests, easy A if you pay any attention.
