This course develops an understanding of the basic elements of financial accounting and its role in commerce and capital markets. Accounting helps entities measure and communicate their performance to others. Accounting is primarily a language; the language of business. The understanding of this language allows users from different fields analyze financial transactions, evaluate companies and financial products, and understand financial and macroeconomic events. In this spirit, the course's primary objective is to help students get familiar with this language, and to provide them with a deeper understanding of capital markets and the economic transactions they will encounter both as students and professionals.
Professor Cecere is very straightforward. He breaks down accounting into very manageable portions, making the course material easily understandable. Tests are somewhat difficult, with one or two curveballs per test, but still extremely doable. Highly recommend!
I think Allgood did a pretty good job with what can be a difficult and uninteresting class. Personally, I found the content difficult to understand and you really have to fully grasp the concepts in order to do well on the exams. There are definitely enough resources and office hours though.
Had her for Portico and FA. Actually, one of the best teachers I've ever had. Really takes the time to care about her students outside of class and is always available to talk to. Would definitely recommend taking a class with her if you can!
Great professor, will need to put in effort to achieve an A in the course but hes super nice and tries to make the class as fun as possible. Personally my favorite teacher/prof ive ever had
I felt like her exams were unnecessarily difficult and went beyond the content covered in class. I had a friend with another professor whose exams were much easier. She explained concepts decently in class, but I don't recommend her because of the exams.
Super knowledgeable, great professor, and really wants to help students succeed. Exercises and practice exams are super helpful. Definitely difficult exams and you'll need to prepare well to get top 15% for A (csom curve), but overall phenomenal class with great prof.
Actual goat. He was goated. Such a funny guy, and really unique class structure. Hit him first class with Warren Buffet's quote that accounting is the backbone of business and it's over. Make sure to build a relationship.
Edward Taylor is the GOAT I cannot stress that enough. Do not take any other professor this guy is THE MAN. No homework, quizzes are straight forward, he tells you what's on the final, and he's a very generous grader. He actually made accounting fun.
I definitely recommend Prof. Weiskopf. She's an accountant now at KPMG, knows her stuff and explains things clearly. The class is definitely hard, but if you do the readings and homework you should be ok. Go to her office hours if you need help, she seems to actually care and is helpful.
He is SUCH a nice guy and genuinely funny. He is super helpful when you go to office hours and wants you to do well. 100% recommend him for financial accounting.
Prof. Devine was a great professor, especially for Principles of Economics. He tailored the course to topics that we were interested in, and was invested in our success. The course was pretty easy imo. He tried to get to know people by name and always responded to emails.
Prof. Cecere was a great professor! He really cares about his students and was always willing to help. The class was very clear and straightforward. He even offered us networking opportunities! Great professor and great man.
Class moves quickly, but if you keep up with the textbook readings (1, maybe 2 chapters a week) it will make so much more sense. She genuinely cares about her students, and is always available for office hours. Keep up with the textbook and the class is pretty manageable
The tests are tough and she moves pretty fast. She is enthusiastic but not the greatest teacher. Office hours are accessible. Her lectures/pps are all copied off powerpoints rather than teaching it in her own more comprehensive way.
Very straight forward in terms of structure. She is available for help and answers questions very happily inside and outside of class. Practice exams were easier than real exams which was kinda tough.
